Oblas, Ben
Upon obtaining a degree in graphic design in the late 90’s, Ben Oblas came to realize that his true talent was working with his hands in three dimensions. After a brief stint in the construction industry and dissatisfied with the dusty and often monotonous confines of general carpentry, he gravitated towards fine craftsmanship. Ben went on to seek out and learn from two different well know Seattle furniture makers. Working in an apprentice/ teacher relationship allowed him to learn all facets of custom woodworking before launching his own business, BZO Design, in 2006. Today Ben works out of a small shop in Thorp, WA where he builds custom cabinetry and furniture. Ben prefers to use domestically sourced and salvaged materials, while his work seeks to achieve the clarity in form and function that is often found in Danish modern and mid-century furniture design.
