Hilltop Artists
Hilltop Artists is a non profit glass arts program. We offer day time classes to the Jason Lee Middle School 7th and 8th grade. Our After School program has created this art bench from fused scrap glass. We call it Fire and Ice. It represents balance. It is always good to take action and move around but sometimes our best thoughts come from sitting and watching.Hilltop Artists; Using glass art to connect young people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds to better futures.

Glass.
Glass holds heat but it also can be cold.
Glass can be sharp but when melted turns soft.
Some say glass can hold memories.
We say glass fascinates me.
First our students chose to put warm colored glass in one pile and cool colored glass in another. We cut the glass into small, medium, and large pieces. Then we began to stack the pieces on top of each other to make over 150 individual tiles! The students then sanded the bench and drew out a design. The tiles were glued down and the bench was grouted.
By fusing the tiles soft edges were created. We discovered that the bench became almost like a reflexology seat!
