Scholten, Joel

I originally grew up in Sheboygan Falls, WI.  I had always been interested in art.  By age 10, I had started water-based painting lessons and later began taking private lessons with Kitty Lyn Klitch, a locally renowned artist.  I gained recognition in a handful of National art competitions for teenagers.

After a 3 year stint as a youth minister in Iowa, I earned my BA in Fine Arts with an endorsement in K-12 Art Education from Northwestern College and moved to Washington.  Now I work primarily with encaustic and acrylics, and have a consistently growing portfolio.  My work has been shown in a variety of local galleries, including UpFront in Issaquah, Two Vaults in Tacoma, and Microsoft in Redmond.

Chickadee

Did you know that chickadees are extremely territorial?  It’s true, but you’re in luck, because this bird is saving a seat just for you!   This watchful chickadee was created with a lot of love and consideration. The wood for this bird was designed and cut by the artist and water-soaked to fit the curvature of the chair back.  The bird’s beautiful texture was created from polymer modeling paste and was finally hand painted with many layers of translucent acrylic colors.  Snatch up this bird and you’ll have a loyal friend… chickadees mate for life!
