McClain, Karen
Karen McClain Visuals specializes in Decorative Painting and Faux Finishes, Whimsical Painted Furniture and Sculpture as well as Design and Consultation. As a Licensed and bonded Paint Contractor, Karen McClain creates unique residential and commercial environments. As an artist, she transforms ordinary pieces of furniture into striking, highly visual objects d’art.
In 1980, Karen began a career in retail display which evolved into her own business, Karen McClain Visuals, Inc. Inspired by her first sculpture – a giant saguaro cactus created as a retail display prop – Karen created a whole herd of characters and creatures designed as small accent pieces as well as giant yard one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, turning them into collectible items of functional art.
“I love to create with color. Here in the Northwest, especially, people seem to have a need for what I call ‘feel good’ colors,” says Karen. Give her a plain white room or a piece of furniture with an old, tired finish and she sees endless possibilities of reinvention with just a bit of new paint.
Her theory is simple: “If you surround yourself with things that jazz your spirit and make you smile, you will change your perspective for just a moment or perhaps, a lifetime.”
