Everything's Rosy

Roses are summer--beautiful nodding colors and fabulous scents, against the blue, blue sky. So here's a rosy seat for you. Sit and dream of summer days, whatever the month.
Roses are a feature in my garden, and I take a lot of pictures of them. This rose grew in my garden, became a digital image, and then a hand-cut stencil.

Buna Bench

In my mind’s eye, I see this bench happily brightening an entry hall, proclaiming “Buna” or Romanian for “hello”. The cheery flowers are from no known garden, but seem to recall earlier times, in places far away.
I have always loved eastern European embroidery, full of fanciful blooms and foliage. After paging through some reference material, I designed this motif, carved a relief block and a couple of stencils, and hand-printed eight squares. These were then sewn into two pillows for the bench.

Pear Chair

I see myself sitting at a small table in the breakfast nook in the kitchen, thinking about a cup of coffee, a piece of toast, and some juicy ripe fruit. It's August and the morning sun is shining through the window. What could be better than a nice fresh pear? This piece may be added to the two Pair of Pear chairs, or exist in it's own special spot, dreaming of summer.
Pair of Pear Chairs

These two survivors were kitchen chairs from decades ago, even older than I. Looking at them, I could easily imagine a big old-fashioned kitchen with these two chairs in a window nook at a small table, not the big square table in the middle of the room, where everyone ate every meal. These chairs are where the women sat to shell peas or darn socks, have cup of coffee, and look out the window at the garden. Comfortable, cosy, reminding us of summer.
