Erhardt, Larry

I’ve spent the majority of my life in Tacoma, with much moving across the country as a child.  Having grown up poor, art was always my escape from the poverty.  However, I have learned from that experience that not only can one work their way to something better but also how to thrive on less.  In my art, I aim to use common materials and even leftovers to make something beautiful.  My studio, Arsnic Studio, is dedicated to making art that is responsible, beautiful and self-driving.

I designed the Ars Chair as both an exercise in design and in smart construction.  Built from half a sheet of plywood and common screws, this chair is both pleasing on the eyes and friendly to the earth and the forestry system.  From the start I wanted to make something that could be made in quantity from the leftovers of construction.  The leftovers from building a house could yield several chairs of my design. This chair is simple and modern, with an intent to be timeless.
