I have always been very interested in the inner framework of upholstered chairs.  I love the shape of the wood.  As a commercial craftsman myself, I have always had a bit of sympathy for the woodworkers who’s handiwork remains largely hidden.

As I finished the chair, the shabby white-ness of it reminded me of Satis House from Great Expectations, so I named the chair for the lady of the house.

I started with a wing chair that was slightly outdated.  I removed all the upholstery and pickled the wood.  I then created panels of fabric with burlap, batting, and muslin.  The backrest of the chair has a foam layer as well.

Covered with pewter diamond mosaic Merino wool, accented with leather wrapped buttons, this  low comfy bench is a perfect place to curl up for a Pacific Northwest rainy afternoon.

The frame was built from scratch by my very patient husband.  I created a red Merino wool bolster to finish the piece.
