Oberheuser, Jennifer
Jennifer’s degree from Syracuse University in Art & Architectural History, informs her current interest in period costume design and photography. In her photography, she finds art in all of nature that surrounds us: the random and abstract veins in a leaf, the twisted, arthritic branches of a mesquite tree, the imperfect symmetry of a flower’s petaled face. With a fascination for the detail and a focus on the minutia that makes up the whole, she concentrates on finding the beauty in the little things. This same attention to detail is apparent in her love of sewing and crafting period garments for herself and others for Renaissance faires, costume parties, themed conventions or just for fun.

Sewing Chair

Being a seamstress and costume designer, I’m always looking for a comfortable, yet utilitarian place to work. Thus I found my perfect “sewing chair.” This later sparked the imagination of - what if the sewing chair wasn’t just something you sat on, but something you could work from, like a sort of giving tree! This standard, country-kitchen chair has been adorned with scraps of fabric, found and recycled sewing notions, lace and bias tape as well as wrapped in countless spools of thread. A more comfy seat has been made from a soft cross-stitch design. The look is complete with a full-sized, tomato-shaped, pin cushion pillow!
