A Fine Vintage

This unique folding chair has aged gracefully, like a fine wine… and this is what inspired the theme. Sitting outside on a summer evening, sipping a glass of wine, one might use just such a chair to enjoy the best of the Northwest weather. The landscape is a scene from a winery near Lake Chelan and sets the tone of the piece: relax, unwind, and celebrate the beauty and bounty of the Northwest.
Please be advised that due to the age and condition of this chair, it may not support a lot of weight.
The Hexecutive Chair

While working on an illustration assignment several years ago, I discovered the interesting subject of Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs. Falling somewhere between pretty folk art and a clever use of pattern and symbols reputed to bring prosperity, their mysterious name belies the intent of these lovely pictograms. They are said by some to attract good luck, good fortune, and show love and the welcoming spirit of the families on whose barns and farmhouses they are painted. Others see them as no more than a tourist trap. I thought a simple “homespun” sort of chair such as this should be covered in the bold, bright colors and symmetry essential to hex sign design. An extra chair is often pulled in around the dining table when a guest arrives, so why not decorate it to show your guest you bid her glad tidings? Or at least give her something rustic-looking upon which to rest her posterior?!
