Pinecone and Needle

The design for this chair is "Pinecone and Needle" to reflect the casual lifestyle and beauty of the Pacific Rim.  The indigo and white patterned fabric provided for this project was done using Katazome.  Katazome is the ancient Japanese art of stencil dyeing and is nearly a lost art. It is the same art used to create the beautiful kimonos of Japan. There are very few who continue and teach the craft. This fabric piece was created using PFD Kona cotton fabric. After the resist was applied, the fabric went through many vat dippings to obtain the depth of color. It was then finished and will maintain its quality. The katazome was framed using quilting art techniques.
