Tank Seat

I used an old steel water heater tank to make this “Tank Seat”.  The idea came to me when I was cutting half round sections of the old tank to make a firewood holder.  I made a wooden cradle to hold the half round.  Looks perfect with the woodstove.  What was left of the tank….well it looked like a chair without a seat.  So I set out to make it look nice.  I designed the scalloped edge for the top of the backrest.  Then I cut it with a saber saw and polished the edges with a file by hand.  I painted it with black enamel spray paint.  The seat is made of a piece of fir that I had in my shop.  The hinged seat can be flipped up so the bottom of the tank can be used for storage – briquettes, barbeque tools, or garden stuff.  This “Tank Seat” is best used outside….

The lamp is made of a crankshaft from a lawnmower.  The base is a tire also from a lawnmower, and the shade is a hard hat of mine from when I worked at McChord.
