Bernard, Zachary
Zach has been working with wood since he was big enough to hold the tools in his father's shop. Now he creates one off pieces, largely to satisfy his own creative urges, although he does do commissions from time to time, as well as repair and restoration. Zach's work focuses largely on function but it is apparent that the aesthetic is also considered. There is beauty in simplicity.

This is a shaker inspired carved studio stool made from maple and black walnut. The seat started out over two inches thick and was hand carved down to its current shape.

Mahogany End Tables

These tables are made of reclaimed Santos Mahogany (a false Mahogany not actually a member of the Swietenia genus). The wood was used as shipping pallets and was saved from the burn pile to become pieces of furniture that will hopefully outlive me.
Welsh Stick Chair

This is a traditional Welsh Stick Chair based upon the work of John Brown, the first anarchist woodworker. The Welsh Stick Chair is the precursor to the American Windsor Chair. It is made of locally harvested Big Leaf Maple and White Ash. Both trees came down for reasons other than lumber harvesting. Zach has taken some liberties with the design and proportions of the chair as well as altering some details to suit his style of design.
