NW Furniture Bank Mattress Recycling to Close June 10, 2023
After much consideration, the NW Furniture Bank team alongside of our Board of Directors, has made the decision to close the doors of our mattress recycling center as of June 10, 2023.
The NW Furniture Bank Mattress Recycling center, which opened in 2013, has experienced great success in multiple ways including providing mattresses for NW Furniture Bank clients, creating jobs for those who have been justice-involved, as well as reducing the impact on local landfills by recycling more than 324,000 mattresses.
Like many organizations and businesses, the NW Furniture Bank Mattress Recycling center was heavily impacted by the pandemic. Since 2019, the increasing supply chain challenges coupled with inflation, as well as the changing market, caused a significant downturn in the amount of mattresses we could reuse and recycle.
“We remain committed to helping provide a good night’s sleep to our clients and will continue to achieve this by utilizing a different and sustainable business model that allows us to provide mattresses to the families we serve,” said Jeremy Simler, Executive Director of the NW Furniture Bank. “We acknowledge the impact this decision has on our community and we are extremely grateful for the many years we have been able to partner with our community in this endeavor.”
There are other options available for recycling in the Puget Sound area including UpTekk, in Auburn, Washington.
